SCOTUS Leak Shows Chief Justice Meddling in Trump Cases
A group of memos from the Supreme Court was recently leaked, and the information does not paint a good picture for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
The memos seem to show that Roberts was using his position to strong-arm his fellow justices on all things Trump.
The memos were recently leaked to the New York Times, and now people are demanding answers from Roberts.
Taking the Lead
Roberts took the lead on numerous Trump cases that were coming before the court.
For instance, Roberts took the lead in the March case regarding Donald Trump being removed from the ballot due to his alleged role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
The report stated that Roberts was telling his fellow justices that he wanted a unanimous verdict in the case.
Roberts also took a case off Justice Samuel Alito's desk when he found himself in the midst of a crisis over flags flown at his home and vacation residence.
That case centered around the prosecution of the January 6 rioters.
Roberts wanted the court to take the case after an appellate court had ruled that Trump did not have presidential immunity in that case.
Roberts wrote, “As I read it, it says simply a former president can be prosecuted because he’s being prosecuted.” He later added, “I think it likely that we will view the separation of powers analysis differently.”
While there were rumors the case would be pushed until after the election, it was Roberts that insisted on a speedy ruling as well as penning the opinion.
On this, he wrote, “In a case like this one, focusing on ‘transient results’ may have profound consequences for the separation of powers and for the future of our Republic.
“Our perspective must be more farsighted.”
If you recall, that decision led to some rather scathing dissents, the worst of which was written by Justice Sotomayor, who claimed that Trump could go rogue and order his political opponents assassinated without repercussion.
To me, this seems like Roberts was doing his job by leading the court, which is why he is the Chief Justice.
Something tells me that Dems and liberals will not see it that way, and that Roberts will be the next justice on their radar to take out.
