Schumer Sides with GOP on DC Crime Bill

Progressive Democrats are getting smacked right across the choppers by old-school Democrats.

We already knew the DC crime bill was going to die.

However, what we did not know was that so many Democrats were going to be responsible for killing it.

Done

We knew we had two votes, which was enough to pass it, but there are far more defectors than we had thought.

Leading the way Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), reports The Hill.

Schumer, when asked if he would approve the legislation, stated, "I'm going to vote yes.

"It was a close question.

"But on balance, I'm voting yes."

The legislation would have reduced penalties for certain crimes, like burglaries, robberies and carjackings, reports Fox News.

The new DC bill that was passed by city council would have also eliminated minimum sentences for other crimes. Even the mayor of DC tried to kill the legislation, but her veto was overridden. Mayor Bowser stated, "Anytime there's a policy that reduces penalties, I think it sends the wrong message."

Since DC is ultimately ruled over by Congress, the GOP is saving law-abiding citizens from thugs taking over the city.

It is just baffling that Democrats continue to look for ways to make things easier on criminals while making it tougher on law-abiding citizens in everything they do.

The truly amusing thing in all of this is that Senate Democrats and the White House never conveyed this over to the Democrat House members, so they are all on record as supporting this legislation, which could hurt them in upcoming elections.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was livid with Biden for not communicating that, feeling as though the White House has thrown them all under the bus since that vote is now on their record.

It is truly hard to believe that, for once, a large group of Democrats had the guts to do the right thing.
