Saturday Night Live humiliates Harris
To the surprise of many, Saturday Night Live actually did a skit mocking Vice President Kamala Harris over the weekend.
Fox News reports that it did so with a "Family Feud Election 2024" skit.
In the skit, Harris was played by Maya Rudolph, who has also portrayed Harris on other occasions. And, the well-known host of Family Feud, Steve Harvey, was played by Kenan Thompson.
As we will see, the program, among other things, mocked Harris for dubious claims that Harris has recently made about her upbringing, including the false notion that she was brought up in a middle-class family.
"I was raised in a middle-class family"
Fox reports:
Thompson's first "Family Feud" question asked his contestants to name something that people would keep in a glove box. Rudolph hit her buzzer first and began her answer, saying, "Steve, look, I was raised in a middle-class family."
In response, Thompson said, "Oh, here we go," and "go" is exactly what Rudolph did.
"My mother raised my sister and me. She worked hard and saved up, and we had a second mother too, a small business owner named Ms. Shelton," she said.
Thompson then tried to get Harris back on track, to answer the question, which she did, saying "a glock, Steve." Then, "a gun" was shown as the second answer on the list.
Then, others on Rudolph's team were asked the question, and one also responded, "a glock." Then, "a second gun" was shown as the top answer.
Background
Harris has received significant criticism for claiming that she is middle class.
At a recent event, for example, the Washington Post quotes Harris as saying:
I grew up in a middle-class family. And while we were more fortunate than many, I still remember my mother sitting at that yellow Formica table late at night, a cup of tea in hand with a pile of bills in front of her, just trying to make sure that she paid them off by the end of the month.
The truth of the matter, as many outlets have pointed out, is that Harris was brought up in an upper-class family that lived in Montreal, Canada.
The "Glock" answer referred to the fact that Harris, during a recent interview, claimed that she actually owned "a Glock." She made this claim, which many question the veracity of, to push back on her record, which shows her to be a big supporter of gun control.
What makes the skit surprising, though, is the fact that it actually made fun of Harris. Usually, the program focuses most of its attention on ridiculing Republicans.
