The National Hockey League (NHL) is having a job fair in Florida next month.
When Governor Ron DeSantis saw the promo materials, he took exception to them.
Now, after getting called out by the governor, the NHL has changed the “invited” guests list.
Full Woke
The NHL was just about the only major sport not to go over the top on the woke agenda.
Don’t get me wrong… they have a few events over the course of the year, but they do not ram it down your throat like other sports do.
On February 2, the league was hosting a “Pathway to Hockey Summit” during the All-Star festivities in Fort Lauderdale.
The summit says it wants to help "diverse job seekers who are pursuing careers in hockey."
The now-deleted social media post stated, "Participants must be 18 years of age or older, based in the U.S., and identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability. Veterans are also welcome and encouraged to attend.”
So, if you read that the same way I did, it means that white males are not welcome to attend, but everyone else can.
Bryan Griffin, press secretary for DeSantis, stated, "Discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic. We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity.”
The NHL immediately deleted the post and stated, "The Pathway to Hockey Summit is an informational and networking event designed to encourage all individuals to consider a career in our game – and, in particular, alert those who might not be familiar with hockey to the opportunities it offers.”
The NHL has further stated that the event is open for all to attend.
Chalk up another huge win for Governor DeSantis.
