Romney: If Manchin Runs, Trump Wins

Well, I have to say, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) and I are very rarely on the same page, but he must be sneaking some quick looks at our articles.

Several days ago, I broke down how I believed it would all play out if Senator Joe Manchin (R-W.V.) ran for president.

In that report, I predicted that if Manchin did run as a third-party candidate, it would hand the election to the GOP, regardless of the candidate. Senator Romney agrees, reported The Hill.

Run, Joe, Run

Manchin has yet to announce if he will run for re-election in the Senate, which has brought speculation that he may be planning something much bigger.

Manchin did little to quell those rumors by attending a conference for a third-party group called No Labels.

Manchin discussed the idea of running, saying that if he did, he would be in it to win it, but there is no way Manchin could pull off enough votes to win as a third-party candidate.

Romney agreed, stating, "The No Labels effort would elect Donald Trump.

"I asked my chief strategist: 'What would a candidate have to be like in order to draw [voters] from Donald Trump as opposed to drawing from Joe Biden?' He said it would have to be someone to the right of Donald Trump.

"And a poll would prove it.

"By the way, we do all this talking. Just run a poll. Run a poll: Biden versus Trump. Then run the same poll: Biden, Trump, Manchin — and see who is affected. I know the answer," reported the Washington Examiner.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) agreed with that assessment, stating, "My guess is [Manchin] is probably moderate to liberal on social issues, maybe a little more fiscally conservative than many Democrats.

"Are there some Democrats who would go for that? Maybe — and the fact that he is a Democrat maybe pulls more [voters.]"

Manchin burned his bridges with conservatives the moment he agreed to use reconciliation to help Biden pass his massive spending bills, and I just don't see conservative voters ever forgiving him to the point they would put him in the White House.

So, please, Joe, run, so the GOP can get back in the White House.
