Republicans Threaten Garland with Contempt Charges

House Republicans want that interview tape with Joe Biden and Special Counsel Robert Hur.

To this point, the DOJ has not been willing to share it, so Republicans are getting ready to take this to the next level.

Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) are now threatening Attorney General Merrick Garland with contempt charges if he does not give them the information they want.

Turn It Over

GOP leadership is stepping up the pressure, demanding that Garland turn over the evidence or face the consequences.

Thus far, Comer and Jordan have defined the DOJ’s level of cooperation as “insufficient” and “inadequate.”

Garland now has until April 8 to comply with their request of they are claiming that they will refer charges against Garland.

The letter sent to Garland stated, “If you fail to do so, then Committees will consider taking further action, such as the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings.”

Jordan and Comer want the tape to show the level of Biden’s mental acuity during the interview, especially in regard to the death of his son, which is where there have been considerable arguments about Biden’s mental state.

The DOJ responded to the threat, stating, “The Department has been extraordinarily transparent with Congress.

“The Attorney General released Mr. Hur’s report to Congress and made no redactions or changes, the Department provided documents to Congress including a copy of the President’s interview transcript, and Mr. Hur testified before Congress for more than five hours about his investigation.

“Given the Department’s ongoing and extensive cooperation, we hope they will reconsider this unnecessary escalation.”

We all know there is a difference in perception regarding the written word and the spoken word, and that is why the GOP is hoping to get in that tape.

They want to hear how Biden said the things he said as well as any possible misses by those who transcribed the interview.

I have one question, though… since Garland is the AG, exactly who will they send the criminal referral to in order to press charges against Garland?

Do they really think someone within Garland’s DOJ will be willing to press charges against their boss on behalf of Republicans?
