Republican 'worried' his colleagues won't confirm Tulsi Gabbard

Despite Donald Trump giving Tulsi Gabbard a complete and total endorsement, multiple Republicans in America seem to be concerned about the former Hawaii congresswoman's chances of becoming America's national intelligence director.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley recently indicated that he is "worried" that his GOP colleagues are not prepared to back Trump's pick for national intelligence director.

Hawley made the comments during a recent interview with Jesse Watters on Fox News.

"I have to tell you I'm worried by what I hear from some of my Republican colleagues, I'm worried that her nomination may be in jeopardy. And I'm just worried about what that will mean," Hawley told Watters.

Hawley added, "We need reform to stop the abuse of things like FISA Section 702. Stop spying on Americans. I hope Tulsi gets confirmed because we need that kind of reform."

Senator Hawley isn't the only person worried about Gabbard's confirmation chances. Senator John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, said that Tulsi Gabbard is Trump's nominee who is least likely to be confirmed.

"I expect most if not all of [the nominees] to be confirmed," Kennedy said. "Why? Number one, the president’s dug in like a tick. He wants these people. But number two, you’ve got to remember these confirmation hearings matter. If a nominee acts like a complete meathead or starts screaming like he or she is part of a prison riot, people are gonna say ‘woah, we need to take a second look.’ But short of that, I think most if not all will be confirmed. The one most on the bubble, as you know as well as I do, is Tulsi Gabbard."

Many politicians are complaining about what they see as a lack of support from Gabbard for Ukraine's war effort against Russia.

Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has accused Gabbard of likely being a "Russian asset." Democratic Senator from Illinois Tammy Duckworth seemed to agree with that sentiment, saying that Gabbard would be unable "to pass a background check."

Despite the allegations against her, Tulsi Gabbard is not backing down.

Gabbard is facing the allegations head-on, even coming out and addressing the scrutiny she's received over her 2017 meeting with dictator Bashar al-Assad, which Gabbard maintains was only to "profess to truly care about the Syrian people."

"I want to address the issue that’s in the headlines right now: I stand in full support and wholeheartedly agree with the statements that President Trump has made over these last few days with regards to the developments in Syria," Gabbard said.

She continued, "My own views and experiences have been shaped by my multiple deployments and seeing first-hand the costs of war and the threat of Islamist terrorism. It’s one of the many reasons why I appreciate President Trump’s leadership and his election where he is fully committed, as he has said over and over again, to bringing about an end to wars."
