Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted in favor of 19 out of 21 Biden nominees in 2021
With the news about several Republicans voting against Pete Hegseth coming out, many of their voting records have been under scrutiny. One of those being looked at is Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
According to Fox News, Murkowski voted for 19 out of 21 of former President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees back in 2021.
“Back in 2020, Murkowski told Politico news that “all presidents have right to their cabinet” before going on to say it is up to the Senate to ensure those candidates “are good, qualified credible candidates.”
This year, Murkowski voted against Trump's Defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth.
“I commend Pete Hegseth’s service to our nation, including leading troops in combat and advocating for our veterans. However, these accomplishments do not alleviate my significant concerns regarding his nomination,” Murkowski explained.
She went on to discuss her reason for her concerns, naming things like lack of relevant experience on Pentagon policy as well as various allegations surrounding Hegseth’s personal life, allegations that Hegseth has denied.
“While the allegations of sexual assault and excessive drinking do nothing to quiet my concerns, the past behaviors Mr. Hegseth has admitted to, including infidelity on multiple occasions, demonstrate a lack of judgment that is unbecoming of someone who would lead our armed forces,” Murkowski went on.
However, Murkowski is now in hot water with several of her peers following the decision of her vote.
Those names include that of Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, a former Navy SEAL.
Van Orden tore into Murkowski for her choice to vote for Biden’s Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Van Orden took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where he let Murkowski know his opinion on the matter at hand.
“You voted for the two men responsible for the murder of these 13 heroes. The internet is forever, your time in office is not,” Van Orden wrote.
“I strongly encourage you to fire the staff that gave you this horrible advice and wrote your X post,” Van Orden went on.
Do you agree or disagree with Murkowski’s decision to vote against Hegseth?
