Republican Congressman Collapses at Event

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) gave everyone a bit of a scare this week.

Wilson was in attendance at the Ukraine's Independence Day at Ukraine House in Washington's diplomatic enclave when he collapsed.

He was then rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Shock Collapse

Alan Wilson, his son, who is also the Attorney General of South Carolina, updated everyone that “doctors have confirmed to us that he has experienced stroke-like symptoms.

"I was able to speak with him moments ago and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals.”

Wilson was in the front row at the event, and the Ukrainian ambassador could tell something was wrong while he was speaking.

He immediately stopped and asked for a doctor for Wilson.

Wilson’s office confirmed that the congressman had fallen ill, posting, "Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.”

Just prior to his collapse, Wilson was laughing and joking with the media.

He had stated that he had just gotten back from a big trip, having gone to the Philippines, Australia, and Europe, including a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, then he came home to hit the campaign trail.

Wilson has been serving in Congress since 2001, having his 15 minutes of fame back when Barack Obama was in office.

If you recall Obama’s 2009 State of the Union speech before the joint session of Congress, you will hear someone say, “You lie,” while Obama is speaking… and that would be Wilson.

At 77 years of age and a quarter-century in office, maybe it is time for Wilson to step aside and turn the seat over to the next generation of politicians.
