Reporter Who Killed Journalist Gets 28 Years
One of the bigger headlines of 2022 was the murder of Las Vegas Review-Journal's Jeff German.
German was stabbed to death by a former county official over a report of an alleged affair and a hostile work environment.
The official, Robert Telles, was just sentenced to 28 years for the murder.
Going to Jail
The murder stunned the nation, and Telles, even though he denied the killing, appears to have been caught dead to rights, forgive the pun.
German was found brutally attacked at his home.
Video footage of a man matching Telles’ description showed the man enter the side yard of the home and leave.
Video also captured footage of a vehicle that matched the description of Telles’ vehicle.
When Telles was sentenced, the judge dropped the hammer on him, giving him the maximum sentence with enhancements, which resulted in a 28-year sentence.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson explained, “The judge couldn’t sentence him to any more time.
“She gave him the maximum.”
Telles’ defense attorney, Robert Draskovich, had asked the court for leniency in the case, but he was far from surprised when the sentence was handed down.
He stated, “The sentence was not surprising.
“We fulfilled our defense obligation. We parted on good terms. (Telles) preserved all his rights for appeal.”
That, to me, sounds like an attorney who knew he was representing a guilty party.
Telles did testify on his behalf, but it was short and not convincing at all.
He, in part, stated, “I understand the desire to seek justice and hold somebody accountable for this. But I did not kill Mr. German.”
Prosecutors countered, “This type of violence, this sort of political violence is unacceptable and dangerous for a community as a whole.”
I completely agree and the only way to knock this nonsense off and get this country back on track is to make examples of these types of cases.
As far as I am concerned, Telles should never see another sunset as a free man.
