A plan is starting to form just in case there is no solution to the resistance against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as the Speaker.
According to reports, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise is being told to be on standby.
This may not sit well with McCarthy, but the GOP has to get a Speaker in place as quickly as possible if they are going to stop this runaway train.
McCarthy has about a half dozen members of the caucus that want nothing to do with him.
In fact, we can point to the omnibus bill that is now going through Congress and blame it on the lack of faith other Republicans have in McCarthy to be able to lead the House.
McCarthy has been given a list of demands from the resistance. While they do not expect the entire list to be met, they are expecting key issues and a discussion to be had.
Ironically, one of their demands is single-issue legislation.
Had that “demand” been in place, this spending bill would not have even hit the floor with a Republican-run House.
Almost half of the $1.7 trillion spending bill that is meant to keep the government operational over the next year is wasteful spending, the majority of which is going to Democrat pet projects.
The problem in terms of Scalise being named Speaker is that he does not want to screw over McCarthy.
He has openly supported McCarthy for Speaker in the new term…
In 16 days House Republicans will take the Majority and we'll finally replace Speaker Nancy Pelosi with Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

I actually think that could work in his favor if this comes to fruition. Scalise and McCarthy have worked hand-in-hand for years, so there is a relationship there. If McCarthy cannot be Speaker, he will want someone in there that he can trust and will be on the same page as him.
I also do not think it will come to that. McCarthy has wanted this position for so long, and now it is sitting on his plate but he just does not have a fork to pick it up.
There will be a deal made at some point, be it with resisting members or a small group of Democrats.
I have stated before, McCarthy will be showing his true colors based on who he deals with. The demands by the resistance are not of line, by any measure. If he wants that gavel, he will meet them.
