REPORT: Senator Menendez Will Not Seek Re-election

Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is neck-deep in corruption charges right now, but up until a few days ago, he had not revealed if he was going to run again.

After all, Menendez ran before with corruption charges hanging over his head, and he won.

This time, however, after another dozen charges were announced, Menendez has reportedly decided to not run for office, which opens the door for the GOP to flip the seat.

Time to Take It Back

I have to admit, part of me was hoping that Menendez would run unopposed.

With an approval rating now in single figures, I think just about any candidate the GOP put up there would have taken out Menendez with all these corruption charges hanging over his head.

But with Menendez out, the Democratic primary will be between New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy and Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ).

Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner now believes this seat is ripe for the taking in the upcoming election, and she is right, as long as the GOP has the right candidate and really attacks this election.

Murphy was supposed to be the frontrunner once she announced, but it would appear that voters have linked her to the establishment, and they are not flocking to her campaign as expected.

Kim's profile is not great, so this is clearly an opportunity for the GOP to take an unexpected seat.

Glassner stated, “Personally, I don’t think we have the strongest candidates in Andy Kim or Tammy Murphy.

“She doesn’t really have any credible experience and he is from south Jersey, doesn’t really know the north Jersey folks, and is much more progressive than the democrats here in New Jersey I think are interested in.”

Glassner continued, “It can be done and first of all if you look at the state of New Jersey, thanks to the Biden-Murphy administration and Menendez and certainly Tammy Murphy has made this state one of the most expensive in the country.

“I think it makes it more winnable.”

Glassner is one of the three top GOP candidates for the seat, with hotelier Curtis Bradshaw and former News12 reporter Alex Zdan also running in the GOP primary.

This is now in the hands of New Jersey voters, who will have until June 4 to decide who they are going to pick.

Let’s just hope they get this one right and the GOP is able to steal this seat, as it would clearly be a seat that Democrats never expected to lose in the Senate.
