Do you want to know where your tax dollars and donation dollars to political parties and candidates go?
A nice chunk of that goes to keep them entertained and their travel expenses.
The latest example is a massive bill attributed to New Jersey Governor Murphy for charges from events at MetLife Stadium.
Put It on My Tab
According to the report. Murphy tapped into the state’s expense account to cover charges at various sporting events and concerts totaling about $12,000, including a nice tab at the Taylor Swift concert.
The expense account is only supposed to be used for “Official Receptions, Official Residence, and Other Official Expenses,” but that does not seem to be the case here.
If you recall, former NJ Governor Chris Christie created national headlines for doing the same thing, but the state GOP ended up reimbursing the state with, you guessed it, donor money.
The Washington Examiner reported on the charges:
“The charges at the stadium in East Rutherford totaled $11,847 for snacks and beverages between 2018 and 2019. The charges included $936 for snacks during Swift's 2018 concert and $1,413 at the Hot 97’s Summer Jam in June 2019. The other thousands of dollars were spent at various sporting events at the arena. Items on the receipts for one of the sporting events included $90 for bottled water and $45 for extra guacamole.”
That, to me, sounds like Murphy was taking his kids to see shows, but that is just me.
Jennifer Sciortino, a spokeswoman for Murphy, stated, “Once it was clear that there were outstanding bills that had not been paid, the state stepped up to meet this responsibility.
“We are pursuing reimbursement from the state party for costs incurred at MetLife Stadium."
I think Jenny is missing the point here. Why are these politicos not picking up their own tabs for what is clearly personal entertainment, and forcing the state party to pick it up with donor money?
It is because of garbage like this that I will never donate to a political campaign or party ever again.
