Rep. Jamaal Brown Censured for Pulling Capitol Fire Alarm
During the vote for Speaker, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) pulled a fire alarm.
While he initially stated it was an accident, video evidence after he worked out his plea deal showed, at least to me, that this was a purposeful act.
The House finally voted to censure him, with the measure passing 214-191, with five Democrats crossing the aisle on the vote.
Unpacking the Censure
So, Democrats have been using this to gaslight voters on racism by the Republican Party, which is utterly ridiculous.
If you watched the video, there is only one conclusion that can be drawn… he pulled an alarm on purpose and absolutely lied about his intent.
Virtually every Democrat that made a floor speech in his defense, however, made it as though this was being done solely because he is a man of color.
Keep in mind, Republicans just expelled a member of their own caucus a few days earlier, voting to remove Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.).
While defending himself against the measure, Bowman called Republicans “unserious.”
It’s painfully obvious to myself, my colleagues, and the American people, that the Republican party is deeply unserious. Their censure resolution against me demonstrates their inability to govern.

That is pretty rich coming from someone who used a child-like prank to disrupt congressional hearings.
Let me be clear… Bowman broke the law, and that is why he was censured, which is nothing more than a slap on the wrist in the overall scheme of things.
This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with his lack of respect for the office, and every Democrat who defended him is a hypocrite and a complete and utter joke.
Sadly, however, that is the state of Congress… it is filled with petulant children more interested in getting social media clicks, likes, and shares than in governing and representing We the People.
If I had my way, Bowman would have been expelled right alongside Santos, as neither one of them deserves the right to represent Americans in Congress.
