Rep. Greene Draws Red Line in the Sand for Johnson

Speaker Johnson (R-LA) may be the first Speaker in history to get a job he never really wanted.

Johnson was more or less dubbed as being the compromise for the entire caucus after Speaker Emeritus Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the role.

If Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has her way, Johnson will not be holding that gavel much longer.

The Red Line

Recently, Greene introduced a motion to vacate against Johnson.

This motion has not made it to the floor for a vote, with Greene stating that the motion was a warning shot for Johnson.

On the matter, she stated, "I do not wish to inflict pain on our conference and to throw the House in chaos. But this is basically a warning.”

Greene has a legitimate beef after Johnson floored a spending bill with less than the 72 hours that was negotiated under new House rules.

Greene’s efforts are not likely to be successful, however, as Republicans are wary of repeating the debacle that took place after McCarthy was removed.

David Cohen, a political scientist at the University of Akron, explained, "Johnson benefits from the terrible example that was set several months ago when (former House Speaker Kevin) McCarthy, R-Calif., was ousted.

“It was utter chaos. The House was completely dysfunctional. I don't know if there's an appetite, even among those in the right flank of the Republican Party, to go through that process again."

Republicans only have a two-vote cushion right now, so Greene would only need two members of the Freedom Caucus to back her on this motion and it would succeed if Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) united his caucus to join the motion.

There is a lot of frustration in the House right now, as it has not passed any meaningful legislation that has a chance to pass the Senate and be signed by Joe Biden.

The latest example of the complete and utter waste of time was a recent resolution to rename Dulles Airport for Donald Trump.

Members seem to be more concerned about sucking up to Trump than legislating, and it could cost the GOP the House majority in November.

This is arguably the most selfish and childish group of House members (and this is present on both sides) that I have ever seen in a session of Congress.

If they don’t get their act together, it won’t matter if Trump wins the general election because the GOP will not have control of both chambers of Congress, more or less making Trump a lame duck from day one.
