Rep. Andy Ogles proposes constitutional change to make way for third Trump term

Republican Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee just brought forward a joint resolution to change the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Ogles’ proposed resolution has been ruffling some feathers, especially among people who wanted former President Barack Obama in office for more than two terms.

The 22nd Amendment states that “no person shall be elected to the office of President more than twice," and Ogles wants that changed.

Ogles’ joint resolution would have the amendment adjusted to state, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms.”

Because Trump just began his second non-consecutive term, this would allow him to seek reelection for a third term if Ogles’ resolution became reality.

Ogles provided a statement in a press release that explained his thought process behind the decision.

The lawmaker said this resolution would allow Trump the time needed to correct the “catastrophic policies of the Biden Administration.”

“Compared to the prosperity and protection offered under President Trump, the Biden Administration has subjected Americans to relentless abuses that will take a decade to correct,” Ogles explained.

“President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years. He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” Ogles also said.

"It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration. President Trump has shown time and time again that his loyalty lies with the American people and our great nation above all else. He is dedicated to restoring the republic and saving our country, and we, as legislators and as states, must do everything in our power to support him,” Ogles went on.

Ogles' proposed resolution is also worded extremely carefully, guaranteeing we would not see big names like former President Barack Obama, who already served two consecutive terms, attempt to reclaim the White House to serve for a third.

Do you think the resolution to the 22nd Amendment could actually be put into place?

Or is this just a bit of gamesmanship and puffery from Ogles?
