Rand Paul opposes President Trump's Labor secretary pick Lori Chavez-DeRemer

Republicans in America currently enjoy a slim 53-47 lead in the Senate, so that means that conservatives don't have much room for error when it comes to getting Donald Trump's ideas pushed through.

At least when it comes to Donald Trump's pick for Labor secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, that Republican advantage just dropped by one.

Fox News is reporting that Republican Rand Paul from Kentucky will NOT support the confirmation of Trump's Labor secretary nominee.

Paul didn't seem to think that his refusal to confirm her would be a death blow to Lori Chavez-DeRemer's chances, however.

The Senator from Kentucky said that Chavez-DeRemer could "lose 15 Republicans," but "get 25 Democrats."

"She might get all the Democrats. Who knows?" Rand Paul added.

Just because Rand Paul isn't too high on Chavez-DeRemer doesn't mean that Donald Trump's enthusiasm for her has waned. Trump still thinks she's the perfect pick to represent the hardworking men and women of America.

"Lori has worked tirelessly with both Business and Labor to build America's workforce, and support the hardworking men and women of America," Trump said in a statement.

Other people love Chavez-DeRemer as well.

AFT union President Randi Weingarten said on social media that Chavez-DeRemer's "record suggests real support of workers & their right to unionize."

"I hope it means the Trump admin will actually respect collective bargaining and workers' voices from Teamsters to teachers," Weingarten added.

Chavez-DeRemer is a Republican from Oregon who served in America's House of Representatives from 2023 to 2025.

Rand Paul specifically pointed to Chavez-DeRemer's support for the PRO Act as a reason not to support her. Paul said the PRO Act would "pre-empt state law" regarding "right to work."

"I’m not going to support her," Paul said. "I’m the national spokesman and lead author of the right-to-work bill. Her support for the PRO Act, which would not only oppose national right to work but would pre-empt state law on right to work — I think it’s not a good thing."
