Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has his own Christmas tradition that I have come to look forward to in recent years.
On Friday, Senator Paul did his Festivus salute in his annual Airing of Grievances. "Seinfeld" fans should already be well-versed in how this works.
Paul's Festivus report revealed the new omnibus legislation that was just passed had almost $500 billion in wasteful spending.
Writing Checks
I think it is fair to say that Joe Biden has spent more money in his first two years than any president in history.
This bill never should have been able to get out of the Senate without reconciliation, but Senator McConnell (R-KY) caved and garnered enough support that reconciliation was not needed.
It is rather ironic that the man bitching about all this spending resides in the same state as the Senator that is allowing it to happen.
Paul's report found "a whopping $482,276,543,907" worth of federal waste.
He stated, "Who's to blame? One need not look further than the $3.5 trillion that the big government politicians in Congress spent on the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, which ultimately does nothing to truly combat rising inflation rates.
"Worse, those same big spenders have just teamed up to pass a pork-laden $1.9 trillion omnibus spending package for 2023, released in the dead of night, and voted into law without anyone having read it."
One example was the Defense Department having spent $200,000 on espresso machines from Starbucks.
There was also $2.3 million spent on cruel beagle puppy experiments and another $1.1 million for drunk mice.
Or how about the $168 million that is used to help illegal immigrants fight their deportations.
Here is my favorite, though… $118,000 was given to the National Science Foundation to figure out if Thanos could really snap his fingers while wearing the Infinity Glove.
Just in case you were wondering, NSF concluded that it would probably not work.
This is what Joe Biden is spending our tax dollars on.
