Proud Boys Leader Will Ask Trump for Pardon
Donald Trump has vowed to look at all of the J6 cases and pardons for those that he believes were wrongly jailed.
There are more than 1,400 defendants overall, but not all of them have been tried and not all were sent to prison.
Of those who were, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were given some of the stiffest sentences, and at least one of them will be asking Trump for a Pardon.
Let Me Go
Joe Biggs, a member of the Florida Proud Boys, believes he was wrongly convicted and jailed.
When Trump takes office, he has stated that he will be asking Trump to give him a pardon.
Biggs’ attorney, Norm Pattis, wrote, “Congratulations on your re-election to the Presidency. You are now in a position to close a painful chapter in American history involving the prosecution and imprisonment of protesters at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“On behalf of Joseph Biggs, I am urging you to do so by granting Mr. Biggs’ request for a complete pardon for his actions on that day.”
He continued, “These are divisive times. The divisions were acute in 2020, when millions believed the election was stolen and turned out to make sure electoral integrity was preserved. Suspicions and bitterness about the election lingers to this day.
“A pardon of Mr. Biggs will help close that wound and inspires confidence in the future.”
Biggs was sentenced to 17 years and 36 months of supervised release upon the completion of his prison time.
Among other charges, he was convicted of sedition, so this really muddies the waters for Donald Trump.
The 14th Amendment prohibits anyone who has engaged in sedition or someone who has aided such an individual from holding public office.
That being the case, if Trump pardons anyone who has been convicted of sedition or insurrection charges, he opens himself up to impeachment.
And believe me, there are enough Republicans in the Senate that would support removing Trump from office if he pardoned these guys.
Honestly, I think it was a huge mistake for Trump to even take this stance because the moment he offers a single pardon, the media and Democrats are going to lose their minds. But if Trump does move forward, he needs to avoid anyone convicted of insurrection or sedition, especially the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.
