Princess of Wales delights crowd with appearance at Wimbledon amid ongoing cancer treatment

2024 has already been a year of challenges for the British royal family, given the familial tensions caused by Harry and Meghan, King Charles' cancer diagnosis, and the uncertain state of the Princess of Wales' health.

While the princess, also popularly known as Kate, has been missing for most of the first six months of the year due to her own battle with cancer, leaving her family and friends understandably worried, she made a triumphant appearance Sunday at Wimbledon's Centre Court to present the men's championship trophy, as CBS News reports.

Tennis, anyone?

Though the royal's public appearances have been few and far between since her cancer diagnosis and subsequent chemotherapy treatments were revealed in March, Catherine was in fine form on Sunday, appearing on the famed grass courts alongside her young daughter, Princess Charlotte.

Upon taking her seat in the arena, the wife of Britain's future King received an enthusiastic standing ovation, evidence of just how much she has been missed in recent months.

Catherine resplendent in purple, watched with Charlotte as Carlos Alcaraz battled Novak Djokovic for the tournament title.

As patron of the All-England Club, Catherine enjoys the honor of presenting the winner's trophy for both the men's and ladies' singles championships, though this year, she was present only for the men's ceremony on the concluding day of the famous fortnight.

Though specific details about Catherine's cancer have been sparse, and she has requested privacy for the duration of her treatments, she recently informed the public that she was “making good progress” despite the unpredictability of “good days and bad days.”

Trooping triumphant

It was at June's Trooping the Colour parade that Catherine made her long-awaited return to the public eye after having not been part of any official events with the royal family since the Christmas season, as People noted at the time.

Royal watchers were thrilled when it was announced that the princess, 42, would indeed attend the annual event held in celebration of the monarch's birthday.

Donning a white dress with navy accents, Catherine participated in a traditional royal procession, carried in a horse-drawn carriage with Charlotte as well as her other two children, Princes George and Louis.

At the time of the event, Catherine indicated that her preventative chemotherapy treatments were expected to last “a few more months.”

Given the excitement and relief Catherine's appearance at Wimbledon as well as at Trooping the Color clearly spurred among royal subjects and admirers all over the world, it seems safe to say that her extended absence has not dampened the princess' popularity one bit.
