Spanish Soccer President Resigns

Well, the fallout for Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has finally concluded.

Rubiales got himself in hot water for kissing one of the women players on the lips after the Spanish women's team notched a win in the World Cup.

The player came forward to say that it was an unwanted kiss, so Rubiales resigned while also stating that he will continue to defend his name, reported Breitbart.

Excessive Persecution

The outrage started when Rubiales kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips after the big win.

He has claimed from the outset that the kiss was consensual.

He explained, "In the moment that Jenni arrived, she lifted me up off the ground. We almost fell over. We hugged. I said, 'Forget about the penalty, you've been fantastic, we wouldn't have won the World Cup without you.' She said: 'You're great.' I said, 'A kiss?' and she said: 'Yes.'"

Hermoso later stated that she did not consent to the kiss, and felt violated by it.

This was the kiss that ended Rubiales' presidency…

Initially, Rubiales apologized for the kiss, but when calls started to come for his head, he started to push back and defend himself.

He stated, "My desire in that moment was exactly the same as if I'd have been kissing one of my daughters. No more or less. Everybody understands that. It was a spontaneous kiss, mutual, euphoric, and consensual."

On September 10, Rubiales submitted his resignation while still defending himself.

He stated, "Today, I notified the interim president at 930 pm, Mr. Pedro Rocha, that I have resigned as President of RFEF."

He also noted that he will resign his VP position with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

Rubiales continued, "I have also informed him that I have done the same with my position at UEFA so that a replacement for my role as vice president can be sought.

"After the suspension by FIFA, in addition to the rest of the proceedings against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position."

Is this being blown out of proportion? Was this just a case of someone being overly excited after winning a championship?

The argument, of course, is that he would not have asked a man for a kiss in that situation, so why would he expect one from a woman?

I will leave that for y'all to judge.
