Pope Francis stumbles, nearly falls after walking stick handle snaps

Pope Francis found himself at the center of what could have been a medical emergency this past weekend.

The Pope was walking to address an entire auditorium filled with people when the handle of his cane snapped and broke.

Pope Francis nearly fell to the Vatican floor but miraculously managed to catch himself before falling.

Maybe the most noteworthy part of his recent slip was the fact that it was all caught on camera.

Photos showed the scary moment the Pontiff slipped after his cane failed him and managed to catch himself.

When the slip occurred, two aides immediately rushed to the Pope's side.

The aides then helped him to his seat as a member in the sea of people shouted “Viva il Papa,” which translates to “long live the pope.”

The entire audience erupted in applause for Pope Francis.

At the age of 88 years old, the safety and health of the Pope is of the utmost importance.

He has been struggling with a bad pair of knees for quite some time now, even falling twice previously.

The Pope has frequently resorted to using wheelchairs in addition to his canes to get around.

After one of his recent falls, his arm paid the price, forcing him to wear a sling.

Another incident left him with a bruised chin after he was reported to have smacked his face on a nightstand in his bedroom.

His knees are not the only problem, as he has also been battling months of bronchitis, from which it has been difficult to recover.

While Pope Francis’ predecessor was the first Pope in almost 600 years to step down and retire, Pope Francis has given no indication he will follow in the previous Pope’s footsteps.

We hope the Pope can regain control of his health and are relieved his recent fall was not worse.

Do you think Pope Francis will be able to serve for many more years, or is his time almost up?
