Polls claim Trump trails Harris in key battleground states

Some new polling is claiming that former President Donald Trump is actually trailing Vice President Kamala Harris in some of the key battleground states.

The poll, according to Fox News, comes from the New York Times and Siena College.

The pollster considered three battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Between Aug. 5 and Aug. 9, 2024, the pollster surveyed 619 registered voters in Michigan and 661 registered voters in Wisconsin. And, between Aug. 6 and Aug. 9, 2024, the pollster surveyed 693 registered voters in Pennsylvania.

The results:

All of the polls had the same result: Harris beating Trump by four percentage points, or by a tally of 50% to 46%. If you want to look at the results for yourself, they can be found here.

Before going any further, it is worth pointing out that all of the polls had a margin of error that was greater than plus or minus four percentage points.

In other words, there is a possibility that, contrary to the poll's results, Trump can be leading Harris. It could also theoretically be possible that Harris has an even bigger lead on Trump, in these battleground states, than the polls suggest.

Another possibility altogether is that the poll results are not accurate at all - despite the fact that the Times refers to the polls as "some of the first high-quality surveys in those states since Mr. Biden announced he would no longer run for reelection."

Trump, for his part, seems to be questioning a lot of poll results at the moment.

The "real polls" vs. the fake ones

Trump is well-known for watching the polls, and he gave his opinion of them in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024.

Trump wrote:

I’m doing really well in the Presidential Race, leading in almost all of the REAL Polls, and this despite the Democrats unprecedentedly changing their Primary Winning Candidate, Sleepy Joe Biden, midstream, with a Candidate, Kamala Harris, who failed to get even a single Primary Vote, and was the first out of 15 Democrat Candidates to quit the race.

The former president did not expand on which polls he considers to be fake.

Instead, he continued:

I did great in 2016, and WON, did much better in 2020, getting many millions more votes than ‘16, but this, 2024, is thus far my best Campaign, the most enthusiasm and spirit, etc. My team is doing a great job despite the constant 8 year obstacle of dealing with the Fake News and low self esteem leakers. We are going to WIN BIG and take our Country back from the Radical Left Losers, Fascists, and Communists. We will, very quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

There does seem to be a lot of truth to what Trump has to say, here, despite the unfavorable poll results.
