The latest New York Times/Siena College poll is out and it is only going to fill Trump with more confidence.
However, I would note, this poll is not all strawberries and whipped cream, as there is quite a bit to unpack.
Regardless of everything else, the one certainty is that Donald Trump continues to dominate this packed field, including Ron DeSantis, reported The Hill.
Big Lead
Trump is still destroying DeSantis, leading him by 37 points at 54-17.
There is not a single other candidate that is above three percent, so this remains a two-horse race. Honestly, I just wish everyone else would drop out so we could get a better feel for how these two look head-to-head.
Where Trump is really hammering DeSantis is the over-65 crowd, as DeSantis is only getting nine percent of that Demographic right now. So, Trump’s early attacks on DeSantis before he ever entered the race have really worked out well for the former president.
The poll did to a head-to-head matchup, which fell in favor of Trump, 62-31, but I tend not to put too much weight on that until voters actually only have two choices.
All of that is great news for Donald Trump, until you get to the matchup of Trump vs. Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election.
As bad as Joe Biden is doing right now, Trump and Biden are deadlocked at 43 percent each. Of the remaining 14 percent, 10 percent stated they would vote for another candidate or just not vote, and that is a problem.
And if you believe the poll numbers in the primary, you cannot simply dismiss the general election poll numbers because these are all the same people.
This has always been my concern with Trump as the nominee, as he has done very little, if anything, to win over the voters that abandoned him in 2020.
The GOP cannot run, “Trump is not Joe Biden,” as that does not work. Hillary tried that in 2016 and she took it on the chin.
Trump has to stop all the nonsensical attacks against his fellow Republicans and concentrate on going after Biden and exposing this fraud for the damage he has done to this country. With such a big lead, why waste time on anyone but Joe Biden.
If another candidate attacks him, who cares, because the only one in this race other than Trump, realistically, is Ron DeSantis, and he is only counterpunching.
If Trump does that, maybe, just maybe, he starts to win over a few more voters and can create some distance between himself and Biden.
