Plane crashes in western Alaska, killing all 10 people onboard

A tragic update on the plane that went missing in Alaska has been released.

The wreckage of the small commuter plane has been located.

Sadly, all 10 people on board were killed in the crash and recovery crews had been rushing to recover their bodies before a winter storm hit.

The Nome Volunteer Fire Department released a statement on Facebook confirming that they had successfully recovered the remains of everyone on board the aircraft.

“All ten individuals aboard the Bering Air plane have been officially brought home,” officials wrote.

“Two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, a Nome-based UH-60L Black Hawk, an HC -130J Combat King II and a team of pararescuemen worked to recover the victims,” the announcement also said.

On board were the pilot, Chad Antill, 34, Rhone Baumgartner, 46, Kameron Hartvigson, 21, Liane Ryan, 52, Andrew Gonzalez, 30, Donnell Erickson, 58, Jadee Moncur, 52, Ian Hofmann, 45, Talaluk Katchatag, 34, and Carol Mooers, 48.

Rhone Baumgartner and Kameron Hartvigson were reported to be flying back from Unalakleet after aiding rural residents who were having “heating and mechanical issues in the depths of winter.”

They were both members of the Division of Environmental Health and Engineering Team.

The CEO of the company the two worked for, Natasha Singh, released a statement on the pair.

“[They] were passionate about the work they did, cared deeply for the communities they served, and made a lasting impact on rural communities across our state,” Singh said.

The mayor of Nome, John Handeland, has released a statement on the news of the tragic accident.

“Nome is a strong community, and in challenging times we come together and support each other. I expect the outpouring of support to continue in the coming days as we all work to recover from this tragic incident,” Handeland said.

We pray for anyone grieving the loss of the ten victims who lost their lives in the crash.
