Pete Hegseth fires pair of 4-star military leaders amid Pentagon shakeup
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has made the decision to fire two four-star military leaders from their positions.
Hegseth has proven to be a man of his word, previously promising to review the military’s general officers and make adjustments where needed.
The Defense secretary had been open about the fact that he would replace leaders in the military who were not on the same page about his vision for the future of the military.
Now, it seems Hegseth has done just that.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. List Franchetti and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Slife have been axed from their positions.
“Under President Trump, we are putting in place new leadership that will focus our military on its core mission of deterring, fighting, and winning war,” Hegseth confirmed.
Hegseth also noted that Franchetti and Slife both have “had distinguished careers.”
“We thank them for their service and dedication to our country,” he went on.
Along with Franchetti and Slife went Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown.
As chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Brown was the top military adviser to the president.
Considering Brown was put into his position by former President Joe Biden, Brown may have seen this change coming.
He was fired by President Donald Trump himself.
Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to thank Brown for his service.
“I want to thank General Charles ‘CQ’ Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country, including as our current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” he began.
“He is a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish a great future for him and his family,” Trump wrote in the post.
Hegseth also thanked Brown for his service, saying that Brown “has served with distinction in a career spanning four decades of honorable service.”
