Outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ended her leadership by approving a pay increase for House staff members.
Staffers can now make up to a maximum of $212,100 annually, a whopping $38,000 more than elected officials in the House.

"The move comes after Pelosi already issued a directive earlier this year raising the maximum pay staffers can make from $199,300 to $203,700. At the time, Pelosi also instituted a minimum salary level of $45,000 for House staff," Fox News reported.
"The move was seen as precedent-breaking since for decades there were no official House rules governing staffer pay. Instead, House offices were free to negotiate staff pay individually," it added.

"As you know, our hard-working, patriotic Congressional staffers are integral to the functioning of the House of Representatives: ensuring this institution can effectively carry out our legislative and constituent responsibilities," Pelosi said in a letter to her congressional colleagues.
"To that end, we must do all we can to retain and recruit the best talent in our nation — and to build a Congressional workforce that reflects the communities we are honored to serve," she added.
The New York Post also reported, "In 2021, Pelosi raised the maximum salary for House staff to $199,300. The salary cap was raised again in May to $203,700, at which point the speaker also instituted a minimum salary of $45,000 for staffers."
Pelosi made the move as she departed as the decision as it is highly unpopular among many Americans.
Under the Biden administration and Democrats in power, inflation has soared to the highest in a generation, putting many American families in difficult situations.
The parting shot by Pelosi did not go unnoticed, but will instead likely fuel conservatives to further push against the left's agenda in 2023.
