“This is not a casual vote for us. It’s something you take very seriously, and he should have taken it seriously,” Pelosi told reporters following the vote, adding that he “should have been man about it.”
“This is a very serious matter to uphold the dignity and respect the House of Representatives,” she continued. “He has not, and he didn’t today … by not even showing up and being a coward.”
"He's an embarrassment to the institution, and now that that seat is vacant by the way, Republicans actually have a chance to keep it."

Rep. Kevin Kiley also blasted Santos over the allegations from the Ethics Committee report that led to his recent expulsion.
"He's an embarrassment to the institution, and now that that seat is vacant by the way, Republicans actually have a chance to keep it," Newsmax reported.
Santos was just the sixth House member to be expelled in a vote that included many Democrats and Republicans coming together to obtain the necessary numbers.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated that he had reservations about the vote but also did not have the ability to stop the vote from moving forward.
The vote adds to division among Republicans who voted out Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) earlier this year in a controversial move.
Republicans hope to change the divisive messaging in time for a united push for the 2024 election that could see former President Donald Trump representing the party once again.
