Pelosi-backed Sheila Jackson Trounced in Houston Mayoral Race
Rep. Sheila Jackson (D-TX) had the endorsement of some of the most powerful Democrats in the country.
She also made some serious gaffes during the campaign, not to mention audio that surfaced of her lambasting campaign staff.
All those big endorsements did not matter, however, as Jackson was crushed by Texas State Senator John Whitmire, also a Democrat, who is now the mayor-elect.
Bye, Sheila
The final nail in the coffin for Jackson appeared to be the audio that was leaked where she tore into staff members.
In part, Jackson, clearly using an angry tone, stated, "When I called Jerome, he only sits up there like a fat [expletive], just talking about what the [expletive] he doesn’t know. Both of y’all are [expletive]-ups… This is the worst [expletive] that I could’ve ever had put together. Two [expletive] big [expletive] children. [Expletive] idiots. Serve no [expletive] purpose.”
Jackson also released a video only days before the election giving the wrong date to vote.
Whitmire, who ran on a tough-on-crime platform, referred to the audio in his comments after the election results were finalized.
He stated, "People want to go to work for me because we respect people. We don't bully people.
“My family taught me to treat people the way you want to be treated, and that works wherever you are, regardless of what community you're visiting with. Treat these individuals like you want to be treated."
This is probably the best we could hope for in Texas for that city… getting a Democrat who is at least tough on crime and will not coddle criminals.
Whitmire added, "Great cities solve their problems.
"We will face challenges, but I see that as an opportunity, and I need you to join hands with me. We'll meet our challenges, and it'll be an opportunity to show the nation what the city of Houston could do."
Whitmire hardly had the firepower behind him that Jackson had, with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), LA Mayor Karen Bass, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), current Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and a host of other Texas state officials and members of Congress all backing Jackson in the campaign.
It would appear that even Texas liberals are starting to get the memo that you cannot have a safe and successful city if you turn over the keys to a far-left progressive.
