Oregon DMV Forced to Halt Automatic Voter Registration Program

Yet again, another automatic voter registration plan has come up with some issues.

This time, it is the Oregon DMV, which automatically registers people who obtained new licenses or state IDs.

The plan has been halted because it mistakenly added people to the voter rolls.

Pause It

The issue was confirmed by Governor Tina Kotek.

An “after-action” report confirmed that hundreds of people were added that never should have been added to voter rolls.

The report stated, “These records contained evidence of clerical errors regarding citizenship status but that does not necessarily mean they belong to noncitizens.

“For example, we know that of the 10 individuals identified in an earlier review who had a voting history, at least five were in fact citizens.”

Kotek added, “Any error that undermines our voting system must be taken incredibly seriously and addressed.”

This number is in addition to the more than 1,000 voters they had previously identified as being mistakenly added to voter rolls.

The state was adamant, however, that this did not create a massive problem of illegal voting, as only seven instances of possible improper voting have been identified.

Tobias Read, the Democrat who is running to be the next secretary of state, expressed confidence in the system.

He stated, “Oregonians deserve a thorough investigation of the automatic voter registration program’s implementation, as well as accountability at both the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Secretary of State’s Office. If that is not achieved by this investigation, I can assure you I will provide it if I am the next Secretary of State.”

His opponent, Republican Senator Dennis Linthicum, has, however, been raising questions about the system and illegal voting for some time.

The Oregon GOP is also asking for a wider-ranging audit, stating, “She only looked at a small portion of voters registered at the DMV since 2021 and continues to insist that voter fraud is ‘extremely rare.’

“This small sample highlights how widespread inaccuracies in Oregon’s voter rolls are. The urgent need for an independent full and complete audit of the voter rolls is critical to ensure transparency and to reassure Oregonians that our elections are fair and free of fraud.”

If there is even a hint of something fraudulent happening, the GOP is going to go nuts, so these Democrats better get their act together, and they are running out of time to do it.
