NY Lt. Gov. says he will not run for re-election

On Monday, New York’s political scene had a bit of a shakeup.

Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado announced that he will not be running for re-election.

He has stated that he will look for other ways to represent the state.

Sorry, Kathy

Even though candidates run separately for these positions in the primary, they are shown as being on the same ticket during the general election.

Hochul and Delgado have not exactly had a smooth relationship, as Delgado has broken from her position in numerous cases.

For instance, Delgado had called for the resignation of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, but Hochul decided to allow Adams to stay in place rather than remove him from office so close to the next election.

In announcing that he would be stepping back, Delgado stated, “I have made the decision to not run for reelection with the Governor in 2026.

“I remain deeply committed to finishing my full term, as I was independently elected to do, by the people of New York.

“I am determined to be your voice in state government now and in the future. All options are on the table, and I will be exploring them.”

He added that he ran for office “because I believed we needed more leaders in government willing to hold themselves accountable to the people – and only the people.

“I believe New Yorkers deserve this kind of leadership now more than ever.”

Hochul’s communication team then lit him up. Communication Director Anthony Hogrebe stated, “Today, Antonio Delgado finally said out loud what has been obvious for quite some time: he is simply not interested in doing the job of the Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York.

“Governor Hochul had already begun taking steps to identify a new running mate for 2026.

“We will also be reallocating responsibilities within the administration to ensure that important initiatives that had been within the Lieutenant Governor’s office are no longer neglected.

“Governor Hochul wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

That is pretty harsh, but what has really stunned me is that I have not seen more outrage on the left.

Hogrebe more or less called Delgado lazy, so just imagine how that would have played out with a white Republican governor and a black Lt. Governor in the media.

There would have immediately been calls of racism, just as we saw when Trump called Kamala Harris lazy. Yet here, the media is sitting on its hands.
