Nine Women Shot by Multiple Gunmen in Chicago

Nine women were shot Sunday morning by multiple gunmen in Chicago's Lawndale area, including one woman confirmed dead.

The shots reportedly came from more than one shooter who stepped out of a Black Jeep and opened fire on the group.

"FOX 32 noted one of the nine shooting victims was a 21-year-old who was shot in the face. She was transported to a hospital where she died," according to Breitbart News.

"A 28-year-old woman 'was shot eight times in her torso' during the attack, and is in critical condition," it added.

Chicago police released a statement Sunday afternoon calling the incident a "reprehensible act of violence."

"Area 4 Detectives are investigating and sifting through evidence as we work to identify and apprehend the people responsible. We ask anyone with information to please submit an anonymous tip through CPDTip.com or contact Area 4 Detectives at (312) 746-8252," the statement continued.

No arrests have yet been reported as the case remains under investigation.

All nine of the women shot during the incident were between the ages of 20 and 33 years old, according to the report. The woman who died, identified as Kanesha Gaines, was the mother of two children.

More than 340 people have been killed in Chicago this year, according to reports, with the violence that grew under former Mayor Lori Lightfoot continuing under new Mayor Johnson. The new mayor's focus was to increase public safety, a promise that has yet to be fulfilled.

The latest violence puts a spotlight on the significant violent crime in one of America's largest cities, leading to questions about what can be done to reduce the number of incidents plaguing the Windy City.
