Nick Hogan, son of wrestling's Hulk Hogan, arrested in FL for suspected DUI

Legendary professional wrestling personality Hulk Hogan was likely left reeling this weekend from the news that his son, Nick Hogan, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the same Florida town where, 16 years ago, he was involved in a devastating crash that was also said to involve alcohol, as the New York Post reports.

The 2007 incident in which the younger Hogan was behind the wheel left his good friend, John Graziano, with a severe brain injury that rendered him dependent on round-the-clock care for the rest of his life.

Nick Hogan arrested

According to reports, Nick Hogan was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday morning on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence.

The son of the WWE stalwart declined to submit to sobriety testing, jail records indicated, though he was eventually released on $500 bond late that same day.

An Instagram post to his account suggested that Nick Hogan had been present for a bikini contest taking place at his father's Clearwater restaurant hours before the arrest took place.

Sad echoes of the past

Those who have followed the career of his famous father may recall that Nick Hogan has a checkered past when it comes to drinking and driving, as evidenced by the aforementioned 2007 accident that left his friend permanently and severely disabled.

For his conduct in that incident, Nick Hogan served eight months in jail and received five years of probation and 500 community service hours after entering a plea of no-contest to a charge of reckless driving that resulted in serious bodily injury, as the Daily Caller noted, and police at the time were of the belief that alcohol -- potentially supplied by his father -- played a role in the crash.

As the Post explained, in 2010, Nick Hogan spoke to Good Morning America about his experiences and talked about the “horribly devastating” collision that cost his friend so much.

Speaking of Graziano, he said, “John's my brother, we practically lived together, and I just remember finding out about how bad everything was. It's still hard for me to think about it.”

Fatherly example required

Given that there at least appears to be some evidence that Nick Hogan may not have learned his lesson about drinking and driving, he may want to heed the words of his father, who has publicly declared his own intentions to stop using alcohol.

During a conversation he had on the This Past Weekend podcast, Hulk Hogan noted that his relationship with current girlfriend Sky Daily has sharpened his focus when it comes to the detrimental effects of drinking.

The Hulkster declared, “[e]verything that I've ever had happen in my life – both of my two marriages – everything bad that's ever happened to me had to do with alcohol,” and it appears that his son may ultimately need to come to a similar realization and change his ways for the better.
