One of the biggest possible contenders for the Democrat ticket in 2024 has officially bowed out of the race.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who many considered the favorite to run whether Biden ran or not, says he will not go up against Joe.
In fact, he stated that even if Joe Biden does not run, he has no interest in running in 2024.
There has been growing speculation as of late that Newsom was going to make a run at the White House.
This is not without merit.
Newsom has been doing the media circuit and taking out national ads, significantly improving his national profile.
During a recent interview, Newsome confirmed that he has told everyone in the White House that he has spoken with that he has no plans on challenging Biden.
He stated, “I’ve told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady,” that running in 2024 is not in the cards for him.
When White House officials reached out to him to see if he would support Biden in a re-election campaign, he stated, “I’m all in, count me in.”
Newsom added that he has also told Biden directly that he will not be challenging him and that he will support him all the way.
Newsom stated, “He not only beat Trump once, I think he can beat him again.
“I hope he runs, I’ll enthusiastically support him.”
It really does make me wonder what Newsom’s end game is right now if he has no plans to run for president.
He could possibly be setting himself up for a run in 2028, but he would have been out of office for two years at that point and be considered yesterday’s news.
It is a rare exception someone can win after leaving a current post.
That is why many believe Trump needs to step aside and allow Ron DeSantis to take a run at Biden in 2024.
He is arguably the most popular politician in the country right now, whereas Trump is only popular among his most dedicated supporters.
I have no doubt if Trump stepped aside and backed DeSantis, it would be a runaway train regardless of who the Democrats put on their ticket in 2024.
