Newsom Orders Homeless Camps Cleared

It sure is funny how Democrats make decisions based on the time of year it is.

In this case, even though California Governor Gavin Newsom has allowed the homeless to take over the streets in various cities for years, he has now ordered the streets throughout the state cleared of troublesome homeless camps.

Now that could not possibly have anything to do with Kamala Harris running for president, could it?

Clean Up Her Home State

Business owners and residents have been complaining about this issue for years, but Newsom just sat on his hands.

Now that a former Senator from CA is running for president, it would appear that Newsom wants to make the home state look good to drum up support for Harris.

Newsom issued an executive order this week on the matter.

The order stated, “This executive order directs state agencies to move urgently to address dangerous encampments while supporting and assisting the individuals living in them — and provides guidance for cities and counties to do the same.

“The state has been hard at work to address this crisis on our streets. There are simply no more excuses. It’s time for everyone to do their part.”

Newsom may also be worried about possible lawsuits after a recent Supreme Court ruling in Grants Pass v. Johnson.

The court ruled that it is not unconstitutional to clear homeless camps even when no shelters are available for them to be relocated to.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass did not approve of the court decision or the order from Newsom, stating, “Strategies that just move people along from one neighborhood to the next or give citations instead of housing do not work.”

The question now remains as to what the state will do with all the homeless once it clears the camps.

With no shelter space or housing options, the likely outcome is that the camps will be erected in a different location after they are cleared.

To this point, Newsom had not addressed that specific issue.
