Newsom breaks from Democrats, calls men in women's sports 'deeply unfair'
Californian Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom shared his opinion on biological males participating in women’s sports.
Newsom believes biological men competing in women’s sports is “deeply unfair.”
During a podcast discussion with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Newsom shared his opinion on the matter at hand.
“The young man who's about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports, that shouldn't happen,” Kirk began.
“You, as the governor, should step out and say no. Would you do something like that? Would you say no men in female sports?" he went on.
“Well, I think it's an issue of fairness," Newsom answered.
“I completely agree with you on that. It's deeply unfair.”
“So that's easy to call out the unfairness of that. There's also a humility and a grace… these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression, and the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well,” Newsom went on.
"How can we address this issue with the kind of decency that I think you know is inherent in you, but not always expressed on the issue?” Newsom asked.
Newsom also said he has two daughters of his own and comes from a very athletic background, he and his wife both played collegiate sports.
“I revere sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legit,” Newsom confessed.
This conversation comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled, “No Men in Women’s Sports” which banned transgender women from participating in women’s sports.
“The radical left has waged an all-out campaign to erase the very concept of biological sex and replace it with a militant transgender ideology,” Trump said of his decision to sign the order.
“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” Trump proclaimed.
After the order was signed, a former college swimmer who became a well-known activist against biological men in women’s sports, Riley Gaines, applauded Trump’s decision.
Gains took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where she shared her thoughts.
“Things could’ve been so different. Gender insanity was the final straw that brought a lot of moderates to the side of common sense. Specifically, I believe it was the issue of men in women’s sports. I’ve been living in a state of gratitude every day since Nov 5th. Praise God,” Gaines said.
