New York set to ban pet stores from selling dogs

Letitia James is finally turning her attention away from trying to put Donald Trump in jail for the rest of his life and turning her attention to other matters.

New York's attorney general is reminding retailers that "pet stores will no longer be allowed to sell dogs, cats, or rabbits anymore starting on Dec. 15."

The Puppy Mill Pipeline Act aims to undermine the puppy mill industry, which leads to countless animals being put down because of overpopulation.

The argument for the Puppy Mill Pipeline Act is that there are already so many potential pets in America looking for loving homes that it doesn't make sense to intentionally breed more.

For each puppy mill puppy that is adopted into a home, there's a helpless animal that's going to be put down because they weren't chosen.

If there was an abundance of homes for pets in America, then the Puppy Mill Pipeline Act would never be needed.

However, with so many defenseless animals being put down each day because of overcrowding in kennels and shelters, some people wonder why breeders are intentionally bringing more cats and dogs into the world, knowing that there aren't enough people to care for them.

The obvious answer is money, just like most things.

Puppy mills mass breed these animals without caring for or loving them individually, with the intent of selling as many of them as quickly as possible for as much money as possible.

Meanwhile, countless animal shelters that will give the pets away for the cost of the vaccinations can't find enough homes for their animals.

As a result, the animals are being killed to make space for new ones.

"This pet sale ban will help put an end to the dangerous puppy mill to pet store pipeline that endangers pets and costs New Yorkers thousands of dollars in veterinary care," Letitia James said. "New Yorkers interested in adding a furry friend to their family can still adopt a pet at a humane society, animal rescue, or a licensed breeder."
