New Poll Shows Harris Gaining Over Trump After Debate

Vice President Kamala Harris has surged ahead of Donald Trump, according to a new poll conducted in the wake of their highly anticipated first presidential debate, held on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

The poll reveals that Harris now leads Trump by five points, a significant shift in a race that remains tight, particularly in swing states like Michigan, as the Daily Mail reports.

The debate, moderated by ABC News, focused on critical issues such as abortion, the economy, and foreign policy. A snap poll conducted by DailyMail.com shortly after the event declared Harris the clear winner, describing her demeanor as the "most presidential." In contrast, Trump was labeled the "most aggressive" participant of the evening.

Harris Gains Momentum Among Key Voter Groups

One of the most notable changes following the debate came from a Yahoo News/YouGov poll conducted between Sept. 11 and 13. The poll, which surveyed 1,755 U.S. adults, showed Harris leading with 50% of registered voters compared to Trump's 45%. This shift comes after Harris was trailing Trump in previous polling.

Prior to the debate, Harris struggled with independent voters, trailing Trump by nine points, with 35% supporting her and 44% backing Trump. Post-debate numbers reveal a dramatic shift, with Harris now leading Trump by 10 points among independents, capturing 47% of this critical voting bloc to Trump’s 37%.

Despite Harris’s national lead, the race remains close in key battleground states. In Michigan, for instance, Trump maintains a slight lead. An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted from Sept. 11 to 12, which focused on likely voters in the state, found Trump leading Harris by one percentage point. According to the poll, Trump has the support of 49% of Michigan voters, while Harris holds 48%.

Debate Sparks Controversy Over Trump’s Refusal of Rematch

Although the polls suggest Harris’s performance helped boost her campaign, Trump has been vocal in his refusal to participate in a second debate with the vice president. He took to his platform on Truth Social to address the debate, claiming victory despite the data suggesting otherwise.

"When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’" Trump wrote. "Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate," Trump said.

In his post, Trump criticized the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, accusing them of mismanaging immigration and the economy. "She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our Country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with Inflation bankrupting our Middle Class," he said.

Poll Results Reflect Changing Race

While Trump downplayed the results of the debate, polls show that Harris has gained ground in key demographics. Not only has she swayed independent voters, but the new data also suggests her performance resonated with some swing voters who are critical to winning the general election.

Harris’s campaign has not responded directly to Trump’s Truth Social post, but her polling surge is seen as a positive sign for her campaign. Even with Trump maintaining his competitiveness in places like Michigan, the national momentum appears to be in Harris’s favor, at least for now.

However, Trump made it clear that the debates are over. "Everyone knows this, and all of the other problems caused by Kamala and Joe - It was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe, and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris," Trump posted. He ended his post by saying, "KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!"

The Race Tightens As Election Day Approaches

As Election Day nears, the race between Harris and Trump is tightening, with both candidates looking to cement their positions in the minds of voters. While national polls show Harris inching ahead, Trump remains a formidable opponent, particularly in swing states like Michigan.

The outcome of the election could depend on these key battleground states, where small margins can have a major impact. Both campaigns are likely to focus their efforts on states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where the 2020 election was decided by narrow votes.

With no rematch scheduled, both candidates will need to find other ways to reach undecided voters and solidify their bases in the coming weeks. The first debate has provided a snapshot of where the race stands, but the dynamics could continue to shift before Election Day.
