New evidence suggests former House Speaker Pelosi's office failed to act on advance warning about Jan. 6 riot
Police warned two high-ranking House security officers of possible trouble at the U.S. Capitol the night before the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, Just the News reported. This adds to suspicions that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi failed to mobilize additional security protection.
Democrats have been using Jan. 6 as a political club since the day it happened. It supposedly proved that former President Donald Trump was a tyrant who used his supporters to stage a coup.
However, it now appears to be a security failure that goes up to the top. Text messages and memos recently obtained by the news outlet suggest that the Capitol Police knew of a possible threat and passed the information along to House of Representatives security, which did not act accordingly.
Two emails the night before the riot relayed the need for increased security based on perceived threats. They pointed to intelligence gathering and other data that indicated protesters might try to enter the U.S. Capitol.
The Emails
It appears Capitol Police passed credible information on to their counterparts in the House of Representatives. A pair of emails laid out precise threats.
"We have identified numerous open source comments indicating groups intentions of finding the tunnel entrances and confronting/blocking the MOCs (Members of Congress)," an email from Capitol Police Deputy Chief Sean Gallagher to Deputy House Sergeant at Arms Tim Blodgett said. It was sent on Jan. 5, 2021, at 8:55.
A second correspondence also noted threats to Supreme Court justices. This prompted Blodgett to arrange a meeting the next morning with Pelosi's chief of staff, Terri McCullough.
However, the events of the following day show that these warnings were not properly heeded. Moreover, Trump has insisted that Pelosi turned down his request for additional National Guard to help Capitol Police, though she continues to deny any involvement in security.
The newly acquired information confirms Pelosi's office was aware of possible holes in Capitol security in the days before Jan. 6. Even on that morning, the Sergeant at Arms was working on security details.
In Her Own Words
Pelosi may have indicted herself in footage recorded by her daughter that day. "We have responsibility, Terri. We did not have any accountability for what was going on there, and we should have," she said to McCullough.
"This is ridiculous. You’re going to ask me — in the middle of the thing when they’ve already breached the inaugural stuff — ‘should we call the Capitol Police, I mean the National Guard?’ Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?" Pelosi said.
McCullough replied that police thought they had enough coverage. "No, that’s not a question of how they had… they don’t know. They clearly didn’t know. And I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more," Pelosi admitted.

The events that unfolded on Jan. 6, 2021, left many with suspicions about how they could have occurred. Perhaps Pelosi's admission, coupled with the newly released information, confirms that she should shoulder some of the blame.
