Nearly 100 Killed at Soleimani Grave

On January 3, 2020, Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian major general, was taken out via a missile strike ordered by President Donald Trump.

Iranians held a memorial event at his grave to mark the four-year anniversary of his death.

However, multiple explosions took place, killing nearly 100 people, and injuring roughly double that number.

The Attack

Iranian media initially reported that 103 people had been killed, with another 211 injured.

However, that number was later adjusted to 95 after they realized some of the names had been repeated on the list.

The irony of the attack is that the terrorist nation of Iran claimed it was a terrorist attack against its people, with several gas canisters exploding near the gravesite.

One local official stated, "The blasts were caused by terrorist attacks. Several gas canisters exploded on the road leading to the cemetery."

As of this report, no group or country has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Surely, Iran will think the United States had something to do with it, as there has been an uptick in proxy groups backed by Iran in attacks against U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq.

In a separate attack, a senior Hamas leader was taken out in Beirut. While Israel did not take credit for that attack, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office noted the precision of the strike.

Netanyahu adviser Ambassador Mark Regev stated, "Israel has not taken responsibility for this attack. But whoever did it must be clear that this was not an attack on the Lebanese state.

"It was not even an attack on Hezbollah terrorist organization. Whoever did this did a surgical strike against the Hamas leadership."

These strikes take place as tensions between Iran and its proxy groups and the United States continue to rise.

Many military experts believe it is just a matter of time before the United States gets dragged back into a more significant presence in the Middle East.
