NE Patriots Star Jabrill Peppers Arrested on Assault and Drug Charges

The NFL has yet another blackeye courtesy of one of its star players.

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on Saturday.

The arrest, however, was not revealed until Monday, when it was revealed that he had been charged with assault and drug charges.

Not Guilty

Peppers went before the court on Monday, pleading not guilty.

Braintree, MA, police stated that they had responded to a call regarding a dispute around 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

The court filing stated that a woman told police that Peppers had hit her, choked her, removed her clothing, then kicked her out of the house.

She further testified that he had choked her about six times, but she never lost consciousness.

She also stated that Peppers pushed her down the steps, but when police offered to take her to the hospital, she refused care.

When police knocked on the door, Peppers answered shirtless, immediately telling police, “I know what is going on.”

Peppers told police that he repeatedly asked the woman to leave, but she refused. He also stated that he never put his hands on the woman.

Charges of assault and battery on an intimate partner, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B drug were presented on Monday, all of which Peppers pleaded “Not guilty.”

He was released on $2,500 bail on the condition that he have no contact with the woman.

His attorney responded, “Judge, despite the fact that this is the case where there is evidence I have already seen that sheds real doubt on the allegations, including videotaped evidence, my client will not object to that condition and he'll agree to the same thing.”

Peppers and his attorney claim to have evidence that contradicts the woman’s story and maintains his innocence.

The team is aware of the incident and had already contacted the league, stating, "We informed the NFL, and we're still gathering information. I know the team put out a statement earlier today.

"I'm not sure how the league and how we are going to handle that going forward but we should have some more information over the next few days."

Peppers did not play on Sunday due to a shoulder injury that was suffered in last week’s game.
