NBC Quiet After Retracting Paul Pelosi Report

If you were watching "Today" this week, you might have seen a report that turned a lot of heads.

The report seemed to clear up why police were merely standing there when Paul Pelosi got attacked.

The NBC version told by NBC News national correspondent Miguel Almaguer was far different than anything else we had heard to that point.

Is This the Truth

Almaguer cited sources that offered quite a different version, and he also seemed to have access to court filings and police reports.

He stated, "Sources familiar with what unfolded in the Pelosi residence now revealing when officers responded to the 'high priority call,' they were seemingly unaware they've been called to the home of the Speaker of the House.

"After a 'knock and announce,' the front door was opened by Mr. Pelosi.

"The 82-year-old did not immediately declare an emergency or tried to leave his home but instead began walking several feet back into the foyer toward the assailant and away from police.

"It's unclear if the 82-year-old was already injured or what his mental state was, say sources.

"According to court documents, when the officer asked what was going on, defendant smiled and said 'everything's good' but instantaneously a struggle ensued as police clearly saw David DePape strike Paul Pelosi in the head with a hammer.

"After tackling the suspect, officers rushed to Mr. Pelosi who was lying in a pool of blood."

He wrapped up the report by stating that they were unclear about what Pelosi and DePape were doing for 30 minutes in the home before the police showed up.

Well, DePape was in his underwear, so we would kind of like to know that as well.

The story was barely up on the website when NBC took it down and stated that the report had not met its reporting standards and removed it.

While the network did not say what standards were violated, they did say the report never should have been put on the air.

When you put this report together with the refusal by local prosecutors to release the bodycam footage from officers, it seems pretty clear that we are not being told the entire truth here.
