Nancy Pelosi undergoes major surgery after fall during European trip

Nancy Pelosi just learned the hard way about what a terrible idea it is to wear high heels on slippery marble floors.

According to Axios, "House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained a serious injury to her hip and was hospitalized during a congressional visit to Luxembourg, several sources familiar with the matter" said.

Just moments before the fall reportedly happened, Pelosi can be seen in a photograph clutching onto Republican Rep. Michael McCaul from Texas for balance. Despite the image being just a still frame, you can tell that the congresswoman was looking a bit unsteady.

At first glance of the photo, you might think that Pelosi was holding McCaul's hand in a display of unity, but closer inspection shows that's probably not true. No other people in the photo appear to be holding hands or leaning on each other in the same manner.

Pelosi spokesperson Ian Krager provided many of the details found in early reports:

"While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation," he said. Pelosi "is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals."

McCaul, the man Pelosi was using for balance in the photo, also released a statement:

"I’m disappointed Speaker Emerita Pelosi won’t be able to join the rest of our delegation’s events this weekend as I know how much she looked forward to honoring our veterans," McCaul said. "But she is strong, and I am confident she will be back on her feet in no time. Praying for a speedy recovery!"

This isn't the only serious injury in the Pelosi family that's made headlines in recent years.

A few years ago, a crazed man invaded the Pelosi home looking to attack the then-House speaker. When she wasn't there, the man attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer.

The attacker was sentenced to 30 years in prison earlier in 2024.

Regardless of which side of the aisle you vote for, please pray that both Pelosi family members can recover from the physical and mental effects of these injuries.
