Elon Musk did everything that he could to help Donald Trump, but his quest ultimately failed.
Rolling Stone magazine recently posted a report about the resistance from Musk to turn over the data from Trump’s Twitter account.
Musk’s standoff will end up costing him $350,000, which is the equivalent of about $5 to you and me.
Down in Flames
The ruling stated, Twitter “initially delayed production of the materials required by the search warrant while it unsuccessfully litigated objections to the nondisclosure order.
“Although Twitter ultimately complied with the warrant, the company did not fully produce the requested information until three days after a court-ordered deadline.
“The district court thus held Twitter in contempt and imposed a $350,000 sanction for its delay.”
On January 27, 2023, the government filed for the data and records from the account, but it also obtained an NDA for Twitter to keep the whole thing hush-hush.
Per the filing, Twitter would not be able to disclose “the existence or contents of the search warrant to any person.”
Twitter “asserted that compliance with the warrant before resolution of the motion to vacate or modify the nondisclosure order would preclude the former President from asserting executive privilege to shield communications made using his Twitter account.”
Trump responded to the news, “Just found out that Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ secretly attacked my Twitter account, making it a point not to let me know about this major ‘hit’ on my civil rights.
“My Political Opponent is going CRAZY trying to infringe on my Campaign for President. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Does the First Amendment still exist?”
The DOJ is really treading on some thin ice here, and this is something that could eventually come back to haunt them when you consider what is on the horizon for Joe and Hunter Biden.
All of this is likely to wind up before the Supreme Court at some point, so this is far from being played out.
