Music superstar DJ Unk dies at age 42
Anthony Leonard Platt has died.
Platt, whose fans knew him better as DJ Unk, was only 43 years old at the time of his passing.
Since news of his death has spread, his wife has posted to social media asking for respect.
“Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER,” wrote Platt’s wife on social media.
At this point in time, the cause of Platt’s death has not been disclosed.
However, it was noted that he suffered from various “health complications.”
The New York Post reported that Platt had been hospitalized for a heart attack back in 2009.
He told XXL at the time that he believed the situation was caused by his endless touring, poor diet, drinking, and smoking.
Platt was a largely influential person in the Atlanta, Georgia hip-hop industry.
TMZ also called Platt a "pioneer of the snap music subgenre.”
Some of Platt’s biggest hits include “Walk It Out” which made it into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in the mid-2000s as well as “2 Step.”
Korey “Big Oomp” Roberson, the founder of Big Oomp Records, the label that signed Platt all the way back in 2000, has now released a statement on Platt’s passing.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, Anthony Platt better known as ‘DJ Unk.’ We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the countless fans who were touched by his artistry and spirit,” Roberson said.
“DJ Unk was not just a legendary DJ, rapper, and producer, but a true cornerstone of our label and the imprint that he left globally will be cherished forever. Hit songs such as ‘Walk It Out’ and ‘2 Step’ have left an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will continue to inspire artists, DJs, and fans alike for years to come. His energy, creativity, and commitment to the craft will never be forgotten,” the statement went on.
We pray for peace and comfort for anyone grieving the loss of Anthony Leonard Platt.
