‘Morning Joe’ Meltdown Over Day One of the Second Trump Administration

Part of Donald Trump’s campaign promises were the pardoning of January 6 defendants.

As inauguration day approached, Trump stated that he would look at the cases individually, with JD Vance saying that violent offenders should not be pardoned.

After taking office, however, Trump issued blanket pardons for most of the 1,500+ defendants, commuting 14 sentences instead of an outright pardon, which created an absolute meltdown on “Morning Joe.”

Right or Wrong

I have written about these pardons extensively leading up to Trump taking office.

I have been adamant that I thought hundreds of those charged were overcharged and had no problem with Trump pardoning those individuals.

However, I was also adamant that anyone who had been proven to have attacked law enforcement should have been left in jail, and I still feel that way.

I absolutely do not support Trump pardoning those individuals.

It aggravates me even more than on day one, JD Vance has been proven to be a liar, having clearly set his position that violent offenders should have remained in jail, yet now that Trump has issued the blanket pardon, he is walking back his position.

When Trump issued the pardons, it got the attention of the mainstream media, who went ballistic over the pardons.

Here is the segment on MSNBC…

I believe this will come back to haunt Republicans in the 2026 and 2028 elections.

MAGA will love these pardons, but the fact we were told that violent offenders were to remain in jail will be used by Democrats to attack Republicans.

It shows that Trump and Vance were not being honest with the American people, more or less saying what they knew the media would tolerate.

This will also hurt Pam Bondi in her confirmation hearings, as she had stated she would like to see the cases reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Bondi has not yet been confirmed, so this will present a problem for her.

This is also going to hurt the Republican Party in terms of support from law enforcement.

Eventually, it will die down, but I have zero doubt that Democrats will revive it during mid-term elections and the next general election.

This was very short-term thinking by Trump to be applauded by his base.

There is simply no way I would ever get behind pardons for people who violently attacked police officers… quite frankly, I am disgusted by it.
