More than 400,000 returns leaked by IRS contractor

The IRS is an agency that most Americans do not trust and would love to see abolished.

A new report is not going to win the agency any new fans.

This week, a report surfaced that an IRS contractor leaked more than 400,000 taxpayer returns, about six times the original reported amount.

So Much for Privacy

The information became public when Doug O’Donnell, the acting IRS commissioner, broke the news to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).

The contractor, Charles Littlejohn, had leaked the returns as well as other agency forms. Last year, the agency had reported that roughly 70,000 returns had been leaked by Littlejohn, so the new report is a bit alarming.

Among the returns that were leaked were Donald Trump and Elon Musk, so you can see where this is going and why Donald Trump wants to purge so many people from government service.

We clearly have activists in these departments who are incapable of remaining neutral.

O’Donnell stated that many of the returns that were leaked were business-related, but he also stated that there are still people who have yet to be notified that their returns were among those leaked.

Littlejohn got off relatively easy, with the government only charging him with one count of disclosing tax return information without authorization, so this latest revelation is not going to sit well with Republicans who were already upset over the charges he faced.

O’Donnell is set to retire soon, so this will not be his mess to clean up.

That will fall on DOGE and Trump’s appointee to head the IRS.

However, the new appointee is likely to have a bigger task, as Trump has hinted that he would like to fold the IRS and make the tax code much simpler.

This is the complete opposite of the approach taken by Biden, who had authorized the hiring of thousands more agents on his watch.

Trump has already initiated a hiring freeze while also announcing this week that all department heads needed to submit their plans for significantly downsizing their departments to DOGE by the middle of March.

This has created outrage on the left, who remain terrified of what Trump will expose in terms of fraud and wasteful spending.

Many of those cushy government jobs are about to be eliminated, so all those workers are going to have to start to find real jobs in the private sector.

It may sound harsh, but I am all for this as I do not believe our government should be the biggest employer in the country, which it currently is with roughly three million employees.
