More Charges Announced in Trump Fake Electors Wisconsin Case
Donald Trump’s legal problems may now all be on the back burner, but that is not the case for those who tried to help him overturn the 2020 election.
The fallout for that continues, with new charges being announced in Wisconsin.
Several more attorneys and an aide who were working for Trump have had additional felony charges added to the fake elector’s scheme.
More Problems
Two of Donald Trump’s attorneys, Jim Troupis and Kenneth Chesebro, as well as Election Day Operations aide Mike Roman, have been hit with 10 additional charges.
The three of them were facing only one felony charge prior, but the Wisconsin Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that 10 additional felony charges would be introduced for each defendant.
The 10 charges are for having allegedly defrauded the ten presidential electors who had cast their votes for Trump in the election.
Each felony charge carries a maximum of six years in prison and as much as a $10,000 fine, so this is a pretty significant development for these individuals.
According to the report, Chesebro was the mastermind of the plan, while Troupis tried to line up alternative “fake” electors for the election.
Roman allegedly tried to deliver the fake documents to Pence on January 6, when the election was being certified in Congress.
Chesebro has tried on multiple occasions to have the charges against him dismissed, claiming that he only secured the additional elector signatures to preserve Trump’s legal options.
In addition to Wisconsin, there have also been fake electors’ charges filed in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, so there is still quite a bit to play out on this front.
While all the cases against Trump have been on hold since he won the election, those who were part of these schemes will continue to see their cases progress through trial unless a plea deal is arranged.
As far as I know, these are all state cases, so Trump will not be able to pardon any of these individuals, all of whom could wind up behind bars while Trump heads to the Oval Office.
