Mitt Romney Says He Would Vote for a Democrat Over Trump or Ramaswamy

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) said he would choose a Democrat over former President Donald Trump or GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in a 2024 presidential election.

Romney shared the remarks in a video that was posted Saturday from CBS News.

"I’d be happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans, maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me and I’d be happy to vote for them,” Romney said to CBS News host Norah O’Donnell.

“I’d be happy to vote for a number of the Democrats too. I mean, it would be an upgrade from, in my opinion, from Donald Trump and perhaps also from Joe Biden,” Romney added

"Romney announced in September he would not be seeking another term in Congress," Axios reported.

"Trump took to Truth Social after Romney's announcement, saying it was 'fantastic news' for the country, Utah, and the GOP, adding that Romney 'did not serve with distinction' in the Senate," it continued.

Romney has claimed that he has no plans to run for president in 2024 and has called for a new generation of leaders for the nation.

The Utah senator has also noted that Trump returning to the White House would be "devastating" for the country, drawing attacks from conservatives who have referred to Romney as a RINO (Republican in name only).

The interview has likely done little to change the view of those supporting Trump but instead reveals Romney's dislike of the former president.

The video would also make it difficult if Romney ever planned to run for office again as a Republican, as he has been quoted saying he would prefer a Democrat over leading GOP candidates.
