Mitt Romney Rejects Manchin's VP Trial Balloon

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has long flirted with the idea of a last-minute run for the presidency.

Go, Joe.

Despite the Democrats actively saying a run from Manchin would negatively impact President Joe Biden’s chance of securing a second term, Manchin never let that deter him.

However, after a lot of consideration, it appears Manchin has decided on his own terms that he will give up the notion of a third-party run.

Before making that decision, though, Manchin did give us some insight about whom he would like to select as his running mate.

One of those names was that of Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT).

Naturally, Romney was asked about his position on the matter.

Romney gave a recent interview to Deseret News where he discussed the scenario.

“Well, that’s really presumptuous. I would be the president. He would be my running mate,” Romney joked.

The senator did not stop there.

He shut down the vice president rumors once and for all.

“No, I’m not going to run for president. Certainly, I’m not running for vice president. But [Manchin is] kind to say that. We’re good friends,” Romney said.

Well, there you have it.

It looks like we will not see Romney in any sort of run for the White House in 2024.

It is an interesting position to take, though, because Romney has also said he will not endorse former President Donald Trump.

While we may not know Romney’s reason for refusing to run for president or vice president, we can confirm that neither of those things will happen in the 2024 race for the White House.

Despite Manchin’s decision to refrain from running -- Joe Biden is still in trouble.

With Biden’s approval ratings the lowest they have ever been, Trump very well may sit in the Oval Office once again, whether Romney likes it or not!
